Final Evaluation Report (2023)

The 2023 Final Evaluation Report details the project titled “Fruit Availability and Dietary Ecology of Nigeria-Cameroon Chimpanzees in Kom-Wum Forest Reserve, Cameroon.” The project aimed to assess the seasonal fruit availability for chimpanzees, investigate their diet, and conduct socio-economic surveys to understand bushmeat hunting. The project found that fruit availability was higher in the rainy season, and chimpanzees predominantly consumed fruits (98%). It also involved capacity-building workshops where locals were trained in conservation techniques, and nurseries for key plants were established. Future efforts will focus on reducing illegal hunting, raising conservation awareness, and building alternative livelihood activities for the local communities.
